Packing for Japan is an art. While Japanese convenience stores (Konbini) are amazing, there are some things you should definitely bring from home to ensure a stress-free journey in 2026.
1. A High-Quality Power Bank Between Google Maps and translation apps, your phone battery will drain fast. A 10,000mAh bank is a lifesaver.
2. Comfortable “Slip-on” Shoes You will be taking your shoes off at temples, traditional restaurants, and even some hotels. Save time and your back with easy-to-remove footwear.
3. A Small Coin Purse Despite the digital shift, Japan still loves its 100 and 500 yen coins. You don’t want them loose in your pocket!
4. Pocket Tissues & Hand Towel Many public restrooms in Japan do not have paper towels. Carrying a small “tenugui” (hand towel) is the local way to stay dry.
5. Universal Travel Adapter Japan uses Type A/B (same as USA/Canada). If you’re from Europe or Australia, don’t forget your adapter!
